What is a Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS)?

A Postprandial Blood Sugar test measures glucose exactly two hours after you start a meal, and it answers a different question from the fasting test. Fasting sugar shows the baseline your body holds overnight; postprandial shows how well it clears an actual glucose load. In healthy metabolism, insulin released with the meal moves sugar into cells fast enough that the level is back below 140 mg/dL by the two-hour mark. When cells resist insulin, or the pancreas cannot release it quickly enough, the peak is higher and the return is slower, and the two-hour value stays up. This matters clinically because the postprandial value frequently rises before the fasting one does.
