What is a TPO?
An Anti-TPO test measures antibodies your immune system makes against thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme the thyroid needs to produce its hormones. A raised anti-TPO points to autoimmune thyroid disease, most often Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the commonest cause of an underactive thyroid, and sometimes Graves' disease.
