What is a Hemogram (CBC, ESR, PS)?

A hemogram in this form is the most complete routine blood assessment available from a single sample, combining three layers of information. The Complete Blood Count supplies the numbers: haemoglobin, red cell count and indices, total and differential white cells, and platelets. The ESR adds a marker of inflammation that moves over weeks rather than hours, useful for chronic processes. The peripheral smear adds what no machine can provide, a pathologist looking at the cells directly to assess their shape, size and maturity, spot immature or abnormal forms, identify parasites such as malaria, and recognise platelet clumping that can produce a falsely low automated count.
