Urine routine test (R/M): what it checks and what results mean
A urine routine and microscopy test, often written as urine R/M, examines the physical, chemical, and microscopic make-up of your urine. It is one of the most useful screening tests in a checkup, picking up urinary infections, early kidney problems, uncontrolled sugar, and dehydration, quickly and inexpensively.

What it checks
The chemical part looks at protein (a kidney clue), glucose and ketones (sugar control), pH, and more. The microscopic part counts pus cells and bacteria (infection), red blood cells, crystals, and casts. Together with appearance and specific gravity, they give a broad first read of your urinary health.
What common findings mean
Protein in the urine can flag the kidneys; glucose can flag diabetes; pus cells and bacteria suggest a urinary tract infection. These are pointers, not final answers. Your doctor confirms the picture and may add a urine culture to identify an infection precisely.
