What is a Urine Ketone?

Ketones are the fuel your liver manufactures from fat when cells cannot get enough glucose. They are also checked in prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea, particularly in children, where dehydration and starvation ketosis are common, in suspected alcoholic ketoacidosis, and in people following a ketogenic diet who want to confirm they are in ketosis.
